World Water Day - 22th of March, 2005

Each year on world water day, the Department of Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering tries to plan an excursion for Physical Land Resources students, Water Resources Engineering students and department members to a few companies in Belgium.

The excursion went to the Flanders Hydraulic Research (FHR) laboratory (http://watlab.lin.vlaanderen.be/index-eng.htm), located in Borgerhout (near Antwerp). Flanders Hydraulics Research is a division of the Waterways and Marine Affairs Administration of the Environment and Infrastructure Department of the Ministry of the Flemish Community (Belgium) and carries out hydraulic and hydrological research and provides inland and foreign public or private organisations with consultancy services. We got an explanation about their research on hydrology and measurement networks, followed by a tour along their laboratory measurements.

After lunch, we proceeded to Kruibeke along the River Scheldt, where a polder is presently converted into a controlled flood inundation area. Here we also got some explanation and a tour outside to see the construction works for this controlled inundation area.

Vlir - Get Together Day 2004 Antwerp - 23rd of December, 2004

On the occassion of the Vlir - Get Together Day in Antwerp, there was a visit to the Lillo port centre with a guided visit to the port. In the afternoon, the University of Antwerp (UA) welcomed everybody and there was a free podium 'World on stage' and an 'Around the world' party for all the students.
